A major infrastructure project will see the consolidation of Roma State College’s Junior and Middle School campuses, with the new combined precinct scheduled to open at the start of Term 3 in 2027.
The Queensland Government has announced plans to relocate Prep to Year 2 students from the current Bowen Street Junior School site to the Middle School campus on Cottell Street. The Middle School campus already caters for students in Years 3 to 6, as well as specialist secondary classes.
The project will create a centralised Junior School Precinct for Prep to Year 6 students on the northern side of the Middle Campus, bringing younger students together in one location.
The development will include the refurbishment of four existing buildings to deliver modern learning spaces for early years students. Plans also feature an extended playground, a new covered shade structure to support outdoor learning, and an upgraded undercover area linking classroom blocks for assemblies and activities.
Construction is expected to begin later this year, with the contract anticipated to be awarded in August.
Queensland Minister for Education and the Arts Mr John-Paul Langbroek said the project would improve access to shared facilities and support services while simplifying daily routines for families.
“The Junior Campus is currently located 1.5 kilometres from the College’s other campuses. Bringing students together will provide more convenient access to facilities and strengthen the school community,” he said.
Member for Warrego Ms Ann Leahy said the consolidation would deliver long-term benefits for local families, including improved safety and easier school drop-off and pick-up arrangements.
Roma State College Principal Ms Monique Pfingst welcomed the announcement, saying the move would enhance the school’s sense of connection.
“Bringing all students together will further strengthen the strong culture and pride we have built across our college community,” she said.
The new precinct will sit adjacent to the Senior Campus, supporting a continuous learning pathway for students from Prep through to Year 12.
