De La Salle creates new College Executive position to strengthen teacher capability

De La Salle College Malvern has created a new College Executive position focused on professional and pedagogical growth, as the school strengthens its approach to teaching quality and staff development in 2026.

Maria Alberto joined the College in Term 4 as Director of Professional and Pedagogical Growth, bringing expertise in professional learning, instructional coaching and teacher development. She recently completed a Master of Instructional Leadership at the University of Melbourne.

The newly established role is designed to strengthen teacher capability and support a consistent, high-quality approach to teaching and learning across the College.

The appointment forms part of a series of leadership changes under Principal Michael Ilott in the College’s first year operating as a Years 7–12 school.

Mr Ilott commenced as De La Salle’s 22nd Principal after eight years as Director of Senior School at Xavier College, Kew. His previous experience also includes serving as Deputy Principal at CBC St Kilda, alongside experience in the corporate sector. A founding committee member of the Australian Character Education Alliance, he has a strong interest in the role schools play in developing students’ judgement, resilience and sense of responsibility.

Other appointments include Chris Pye as Deputy Principal: Learning and Innovation. An Old Collegian from the Class of 1995, Mr Pye brings more than 20 years of teaching experience, including 15 years in Catholic educational leadership. He was previously Dean of Studies at Mazenod College, with expertise in curriculum design, academic leadership, staff development and student wellbeing.

Brad Carmody has also joined the College as Director of Faith and Mission, following his work as Principal and Head of Education at the Melbourne Indigenous Transition School. His appointment supports the College’s focus on connecting its Catholic identity with service, social justice and relationships across the school community.
