St Margaret’s Anglican Girls School has appointed experienced educational leader Nicole Devlin as Principal, with the school’s alumna set to lead the Brisbane school from January 2027.
St Margaret’s School Council has appointed Mrs Nicole Devlin as the school’s next Principal, following a comprehensive independent recruitment process that included a national and international search.
Mrs Devlin will commence in the role on 1 January 2027, succeeding current Principal Ros Curtis AM, who is retiring.
The School Council said Mrs Devlin’s commitment to Anglican faith and education, together with her values and vision, aligned strongly with the traditions, culture and philosophy of the Sisters of the Society of the Sacred Advent.
Mrs Devlin has a long-standing connection with St Margaret’s, having attended the school before returning to take on senior leadership roles. She has worked across primary and secondary education and has extensive experience with the school’s boarding community.
Her leadership positions at St Margaret’s have included Dean of Academics and Deputy Principal, and she has acted as Principal on several occasions.
The School Council said Mrs Devlin brings extensive experience in educational leadership and organisational improvement, including leading significant whole-school initiatives.
Her leadership approach combines strategic clarity with a focus on relationships across the school community, with collaboration, integrity and a commitment to students, staff, families and the wider community identified as key aspects of her approach.
During the selection process, Mrs Devlin outlined a vision for St Margaret’s that seeks to build on the school’s established legacy while embracing innovation, emerging technologies and future-focused learning.
Her vision incorporates academic excellence, student wellbeing, strong governance and a culture of belonging grounded in the school’s values.
Mrs Devlin said she was honoured by the appointment and looked forward to working with the school community.
“I am deeply honoured and humbled to be appointed as the next Principal of St Margaret’s,” she said.
“As an Old Girl and long-serving member of this community, this school holds a very special place in my heart. I have seen firsthand the profound impact a St Margaret’s education can have on the lives of young women.”
Mrs Devlin said she would focus on building on the foundations established over the school’s more than 130-year history while responding to future opportunities.
“By embracing the opportunities of the future, we will ensure that every girl is known, challenged and inspired to become a capable, confident and compassionate young woman who will make a positive difference in the world,” she said.
The School Council said Mrs Devlin’s understanding of St Margaret’s, leadership experience and commitment to its Anglican identity positioned her to guide the school into its next phase.
The Council also acknowledged Mrs Curtis’ contribution and said it would support a smooth transition between the outgoing and incoming Principals.
Mrs Devlin’s appointment takes effect from 1 January 2027.
