Relational leadership expert named school principal

Dr Robert Loe will join Inaburra School as Principal in 2027, bringing more than 25 years of educational leadership experience across Australia and the United Kingdom.

Dr Robert Loe has been appointed as the next Principal of Inaburra School, an independent Anglican K–12 school in Sydney’s south, following an extensive national and international recruitment process conducted in partnership with Hutton Consulting Australia.

He will commence the role in 2027 after the Inaburra School Board unanimously endorsed his appointment following a competitive selection process.

Dr Loe joins Inaburra from The Scots College in Sydney, where he is currently Deputy Principal – Academics. In the role, he leads teaching, learning and curriculum innovation, supporting evidence-informed practice, professional growth and continuous improvement across the College.

He has more than 25 years of experience in education spanning Australia and the United Kingdom. Before becoming Deputy Principal, he served as Director of Research and Learning Innovation at The Scots College and previously held senior executive leadership positions with Christian Schools Australia and the Relationships Foundation.

Earlier in his career, Dr Loe was an Assistant Principal in England and held curriculum and faculty leadership positions while also teaching and mentoring future educators through the University of Cambridge and Anglia Ruskin University.

The Inaburra School Board said Dr Loe’s leadership, strategic capability and commitment to developing people distinguished him throughout the recruitment process. His previous experience as Chief Executive Officer of the Relationships Foundation and Chair of the Chilford Hundred Education Trust has also provided expertise in educational leadership, governance and organisational strategy.

Dr Loe graduated from the University of Cambridge with a Double First-Class Honours degree in English Literature with Education Studies before completing a professional doctorate examining the measurement of human relationships and its application to organisational development, classroom climate and school leadership.

He is also the founder of Relational Schools, a research organisation dedicated to strengthening relationships within school communities. Dr Loe has authored numerous publications, presented keynote addresses internationally and is set to publish his latest book, The Relational Leader, in 2027.

An active member of St Matthias Anglican Church in Sydney, Dr Loe said he was drawn to Inaburra’s Christ-centred culture and its commitment to ensuring every student is “known and loved”.

He said he looked forward to building on the work of previous school leaders while strengthening the school’s strategic priorities, including academic rigour, organisational integrity and partnerships with the Christian community.

Dr Loe, his wife Helen and their family are expected to join the Inaburra community ahead of the 2027 school year. Acting Principal Chris Smith will continue leading the school for the remainder of the year to support a smooth leadership transition.

The School Board said further details of community welcome events for Dr Loe would be shared later in Term 4.
