Schools are being encouraged to take part in a national STEM video competition, with curriculum‑aligned resources available to help teachers run the project as a classroom activity or support students to participate independently.
The initiative, part of the Get into STEM program, invites students from Foundation to Year 10 to create a three‑minute video highlighting the achievements of an “unsung” STEM figure making a difference in Australia or overseas.
Students can enter as individuals, teams or whole classes, and organisers emphasise that no specialist equipment is required—just a creative idea and a compelling story. Submissions close on 16 October 2026, with winners to be announced on 16 November 2026. Each winning entry receives $300.
A comprehensive suite of educator resources is available, including lesson plans for Foundation–Year 4 and Years 5–10, a judging rubric, a storyboard template, copyright guidance and a full webinar recording. These materials are designed to help teachers integrate the competition into science, digital technologies, media arts or inquiry‑based learning.
Students also have access to a dedicated resource pack and toolkit to guide them through researching a STEM figure, shaping a narrative and producing their video.
The competition is delivered as part of the Diversity in STEM Toolkit, funded by the Australian Government Department of Industry, Science and Resources and managed by Education Services Australia (ESA).
