Schools looking to strengthen their understanding and use of artificial intelligence will have access to a new professional learning series launching in Term 3 through Independent Schools Victoria (ISV).
The seven-part series, led by educator and AI specialist Tim Kitchen, will explore practical applications of generative AI and digital tools across a range of school settings. Designed for both teaching and non-teaching staff, the program focuses on skills that can be applied immediately to improve productivity, streamline administrative tasks and support effective school operations.
With artificial intelligence increasingly becoming part of everyday school practice, the sessions aim to help participants build confidence in using AI tools effectively, efficiently and responsibly.
The series begins on 23 July with Generative AI Basics for School Administration, providing participants with a foundational understanding of generative AI, including key tools, practical school-based use cases, effective prompting techniques and considerations for safe and responsible use within school policy frameworks.
On 12 August, Writing Smarter, Not Harder: AI for Everyday Communication will examine how AI can assist with drafting and refining emails, newsletters, notices and announcements while maintaining a school’s professional voice and communication standards.
Assessment practices will be the focus of the 27 August session, Rethinking Assessment in the Age of AI. Participants will explore strategies for designing assessments that prioritise authentic learning, student thinking, reflection and problem-solving, rather than relying solely on polished final products.
The fourth session, Time-Saving Automation with AI, begins on 1 September and will introduce reusable AI workflows and templates designed to reduce repetitive administrative work and improve efficiency across schools.
On 10 September, Teaching in the Age of Generative AI will explore how AI technologies work, their limitations and risks, and the implications for classroom practice. The session will also focus on developing ethical approaches to supporting AI literacy among students.
The final two sessions will examine digital content creation and document management. Creating Visual Content Without Design Skills, commencing 27 October, will introduce educators to AI-powered design tools including Adobe Express, helping schools create professional and accessible communications materials.
The series concludes on 12 November with Working Smarter with PDFs: Making the Most of Adobe Acrobat, covering practical strategies for editing, organising, securing and sharing PDF documents while maintaining version control and document integrity.
According to ISV, the series is suitable for staff at all levels of AI experience, from those beginning to explore generative AI to educators and administrators looking to build on existing knowledge and integrate AI more effectively into their daily work.
