AITSL is encouraging teachers and school leaders to make greater use of its free professional learning tools as part of a renewed focus on professional growth throughout 2026.
The organisation’s Grow in 2026 initiative brings together a range of existing resources designed to support teacher capability, reflection and development. The tools are available at no cost and align with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.
AITSL’s current suite of freely accessible resources includes:
- Teacher Self‑Assessment Tool, supporting reflection against the Standards
- My Teaching Advice, offering practice‑focused guidance from experienced educators
- Indigenous Cultural Responsiveness Self‑Reflection Tool, supporting culturally safe practice
- Professional learning modules and guides covering induction, mentoring, leadership and classroom practice
The initiative encourages teachers to revisit these tools as part of their ongoing professional learning, and to integrate them into school‑based development cycles.
The focus on professional growth comes as Education Ministers have asked AITSL to scope a review of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers. The Standards, first introduced in 2011, are being examined to ensure they remain contemporary and fit for purpose. AITSL is expected to provide advice to Ministers later this year.
The initiative also sits within a broader period of national reform, with the Federal Government progressing work on a proposed Teaching and Learning Commission that would bring together AITSL, ACARA, AERO and ESA. The Commission is intended to streamline national work on curriculum, assessment, teaching guidance and research.
AITSL’s emphasis on growth in 2026 provides schools with an opportunity to consolidate professional learning priorities for the second half of the year. The tools are designed for flexible use and can be incorporated into staff development days, mentoring programs and performance and development processes.
AITSL has indicated that the resources will continue to be updated as national work on teacher standards and capability progresses.
